I Can’t Move My Arms!
Last night I went along to the Cambridge University Fire Troupe first fire night of the term and it was both epic and incredible. Fire Swords, Fire Fans/Hands, Fire Meteors, Fire Staffs (Many, many staffs) Fire Poi, Fire Juggling and flying lanterns in the hands of people who knew exactly what they were doing with them, and who were more than happy to show you. I managed to pick up three or four new things to practice (including a couple of new twists on existing tricks and transitions) and feel like the block I had from working from internet videos is completely busted open.
They run indoor workshops and fire nights throughout the year, which I'm definitely going to be heading along to after this one. I was starting to think I'd come to a grinding halt with the whole dancing/peformance thing, and this feels like a way to get right back into it and take things to another level.
I did apparantly get in the way of a camera once or twice while spinning (and oy vey, so much readily available parrafin! so many new things to spin! I lost count of the number of burns I'd been on after the first hour) so if those pictures show up on the facebook group or anywhere similar, I'll link to them here for your amusement and edification.
